About Us

Mutual Responsibility

Mutual Responsibility will run through the heart of our business in years to come.

We recognise we will continue to have both direct and indirect social, economic and environmental impacts in the communities within which our members and employees live and work, and beyond.

Our stakeholders have higher expectations of us, as a mutual, than of many other organisations. We have chosen to be socially responsible irrespective of whether it delivers a direct business benefit. In explaining what we do we will be open about any negative impacts and celebrate our positive impacts.

We must raise our own awareness, and that of our members, customers and other stakeholders, about the social, environmental and economic impacts of our activity, both positive and negative.

Our social responsibilities extend beyond our obligations to our members so we will challenge, and be challenged by, our members with regard to what we do and how far we go in our ‘socially responsible’ activity.

Our members trust us to make decisions on their behalf. We will engage with them to agree what we do in this area, and to define a set of principles that will govern our actions.

Our commitment to society and to the environment will be part of how we do business and we will measure and report on our performance.

This statement reflects our position today. We expect that it will develop over time as we develop our understanding of the challenges and opportunities that we face.
