Companies can contact you in a number of ways, in order to promote their goods and services. Some of this material you may want and some you may not. If you feel that you want to stop these promotions coming to you, it is possible.

Contact by post

The Mailing Preference Service has been operating since 1983. Its objective is to 'encourage good relations between the Direct Mail industry and the general public', by allowing you to stop personally addressed marketing material being sent to you by post. Registration is free.

Contact by phone

Unexpected sales calls can open your eyes to a product or service that you hadn't thought of before, which can be a good thing. However, they can sometimes become a nuisance. The Telephone Preference Service will register your number for free, and prevent companies from ringing you with unsolicited sales calls.

Contact by fax

You can also prevent unsolicited sales faxes by registering your number for free, with the Facsimile Preference Service. Please note that these preference services will only prevent unsolicited marketing contact. It will not prevent companies that you have a relationship with getting in touch with you. If you want to stop these companies from marketing to you, contact them directly and request that they stop.
