News Release - 20 June 2007

New equipment

Disadvantaged youngsters at a Stoke centre can relax and enjoy a new sensory room thanks to Britannia Building Society.

The Society's Foundation donated £2,500 to Home-Start to create the room at its centre in Hanley.

Home-Start provides practical help, friendship and support to families with young children who are experiencing disadvantage and isolation. Its volunteers also visit people in their own homes.

Manager Christine Pointon said the equipment and toys for the sensory room were much needed to aid the development of the children.

She added: "The room is absolutely fabulous, it is brilliant and everybody loves it. The equipment is extremely beneficial but it is also very expensive and without the support of Britannia, we couldn't have bought it."

Christine Massey, Secretary to the Foundation, said: "Home-Start provides a very valuable service in the community. So many families benefit from its support and Britannia is delighted to be able to support it."
