Education Initiatives

Young Enterprise and Britannia have been up and running since late 2006 and already there are over 20 willing volunteers based at Leek with plans to extend this across the Group.

The programme is built on a principle of ‘learning by doing’ and Britannia volunteers work with students and teachers to develop students’ enterprise capability, financial awareness, business understanding and citizenship.

Britannia volunteers are involved in a variety of programmes which vary from offering activities linking education to the workplace, to helping students establish and run a business over the academic year. Programmes are aimed at different ages and collectively work with young people from the ages of 4 to 25.

The volunteers make a real difference to the lives and potential of young people by helping them to understand the world of business and prepare for their working lives. The volunteers have the opportunity to develop their management skills, in particular communication, interpersonal and team working skills.
