Rodney Baker Bates, MA, FICA, AIMC, FCIB - Chairman


Photograph of Rodney Baker-BatesRodney, 64, a chartered accountant, joined the Board in July 2006 as a non-executive director. He is a member of the audit committee. A former chief executive of Prudential Financial Services, he has also previously worked in senior roles at the BBC, Midland Bank and Chase Manhattan Bank. He also has a number of chairman and non-executive directorships. Rodney became chairman of Britannia following the Annual General Meeting on 23 April 2008.

Keith Cameron


Photograph of Keith CameronKeith, 61, a retailer and personnel expert, joined the Board as a non-executive director in August 2007. He is the human resources director for Marks and Spencer Plc, and has previously worked in director positions at Arcadia Group, Burton Group, Storehouse, Currys and Levi Strauss Inc. He is the independent director of Barclays Bank Pension Fund and a non-executive director of Work plc and of social services provider, TACT Ltd.

Bill Gordon, FCIB - Deputy Chairman and senior independent director


Photograph of Bill GordonBill, 69, joined the Board as a non-executive director in September 1999, becoming deputy chairman in April 2004. He is a member of the assets and liabilities committee, the nominations committee and the Britannia Treasury Services sub-committee. He is former chief executive of UK banking services at Barclays and former chairman of Barclays Pension Fund Trustees Limited.

Francis Gugen, FCA


Photograph of Francis GrugenFrancis, 59, joined the Board as a non-executive director in December 2003 and is a member of the audit committee. He is a chartered accountant with wide-ranging interests in the energy and support services sectors, including being chairman and a major shareholder of IGas, an AIM-listed energy company. He is a member of several Confederation of British Industry committees and was formerly chief executive at Amerada Hess Corporation in Europe and before that finance director at Amerada Hess Corporation in Europe. Before joining the oil industry, Francis worked as an accountant for 12 years, latterly with Arthur Andersen. He is also vice chairman of the board and chairman of the audit committee of the Norwegian-quoted Petroleum-Geo Services ASA.

Peter Harvey


Peter, 53, a corporate banking expert, Peter spent over 30 years at Barclays Bank, where he held a number of positions, including chief executive of the UK business banking operation and vice chairman of UK banking. He is currently chairman of software firm Broca, works as a consultant with Ernst & Young and is a director of Surrey Cricket Club. Peter joined the Board as a non-executive director in October 2008.

Chris Jones, LLB


Photograph of Chris JonesChris, 55, joined the Board as a non-executive director in May 2003. He chairs the remuneration committee and is a member of the group credit committee. He is a solicitor and former partner with the leading law firm Hammonds. He is a specialist in business turnaround and runs his own consultancy, Tourmalet Consulting. He is a non-executive director of debt recovery specialists, Agenda Management Services Limited, trading as Drydens, a member of the Law Society and of the Institute of Credit Management and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.

Stephen Kingsley, FCA


Stephen, 56, very experienced in financial services, Stephen began his career at accountants Arthur Andersen rising to head of global financial services practice, after almost 30 years with the firm. He has since held senior roles in a number of companies, including risk management and insurance specialists AON Corporation and legal services firm LECG Ltd where he is currently financial services director. Stephen joined the Board as a non-executive director in October 2008.

Bridget Rosewell, MA, MPhil


Photograph of Bridget RosewellProfessor Rosewell, 57, joined the Board as a non-executive director in July 1999. She chairs the audit committee. She is an economist and is a founding director and executive chairman of the economic and market analysis firm Volterra Consulting Limited. Bridget is consultant chief economist to the Greater London Authority and also an advisor on monetary policy to the parliamentary Treasury Select Committee.

Tom Sawyer


Photograph of Tom SawyerTom, 65, a member of the House of Lords, joined the Board as a non-executive director in July 1999. He is a member of the remuneration committee and chairs the Members’ Council. He is the chancellor of the University of Teesside and a visiting professor at Cranfield Business School. He is the chairman of Union Income Benefit and a director of Thompsons the Solicitors. Tom is a member of the board of Key Homes and was general secretary of the Labour Party for four years, having previously been deputy general secretary of Unison.
