Mutuality & Membership

Britannia is firmly committed to mutuality. This means that our members will always come first.

The benefits of membership couldn't be simpler...

Great deals
You get a great deal from us, as a mutual, because we have no shareholders to answer to.

Unique cash reward
You can earn up to £500 a year as a reward for being with us - we say thank you by sharing our profits.

Be treated fairly
You will be given great long-term value - you won't see new members getting better rates.

You come first
You'll get customer service that is focussed on your needs. If things do go wrong, we'll put them right.

Our members own our business

As Britain’s second-largest mutual building society, we’re owned by our members. We don’t have any shareholders to answer to, so you don't have to worry about them taking a cut of the profits. Our profits are shared with our members through our unique Membership Reward scheme (subject to scheme rules). In addition our members have a say in how the business is run through our AGM (subject to eligibility).

We're proud to have been helping our members look after their hard-earned money for over 150 years and we fully intend to be doing it for hundreds more.

Be secure online

We take your security very seriously and want you to stay safe online. Read more about internet security and how to protect against viruses.
