First you'll need to check your policy schedule to see who you're insured with. You should also be able to find a telephone number to ring.

Important points to note

Make sure that you're ringing the correct insurance company! This may seem obvious, however, it's quite surprising how many people try to claim from a company they don't have insurance with.

And don't forget, have your policy documents with you when you call to register your claim.

• Home Builder - combined buildings and contents insurance with bronze, silver and gold levels of cover.
• MultiGuard - a combined buildings and contents policy which is no longer available to new customers.
• Payment Protection - accident, sickness and unemployment cover.
• Home Assist - cover for home emergencies.
• Travel - annual or single trip insurance.
