The average British household spends £550-plus each year on energy bills*...and it's too much.
Most energy saving tips are simple common sense. But because of the amount of money they can save you, we hope you'll forgive us for listing a few here:
InsulateInsulating your loft doesn't seem like much fun at the time, but it's very effective. It can save you £100-plus every year.
Bright ideaA single energy saving light bulb (like a compact fluorescent) could save you £60 over its lifetime. It lasts 10 times longer than normal bulbs, and uses 50% less electricity.
TimingOf course you've mastered your central heating timer, which means you avoid heating empty rooms. Just in case you haven't, it could save you more than £50 a year.
WindowsTen per cent of your home's heat is lost through the windows. Insulate them for a couple of pounds with specialist tape, and save £25 a year. Draw the curtains at night to retain heat and save another £20.
Hot waterCheck the water thermostat on your boiler. No matter how hot you like your baths, if it's above 60 degrees C, it's too high - which means you're wasting money and energy. *2001 figure supplied by The Energy Saving Council
