General Exclusions - what is not covered1. The insurer will not pay the monthly benefit for any period of disability or unemployment: a) when you retire, reach the normal retirement age at your place of work, whichever is earlier. b) arising from war, invasion, act of foreign enemy hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection or military or usurped power, riot or civil commotion. c) resulting from any criminal or fraudulent acts in which you are involved. d) arising from your death.
Disability Cover - what is not covered2. The Insurer will not pay benefit for any Disability: a) Arising from any condition, injury, illness, disease, sickness or related condition and/or associated symptoms, whether diagnosed or not which you: - knew about or should reasonably have known about at the commencement date; or - have seen or arranged to see a Doctor about during the 12 months immediately preceding the commencement date, and which re-occurs within 24 months after the Commencement Date; b) resulting from a chronic condition that you knew about or should reasonably have known about at the commencement date whether requiring medical attention at that time or not. c) for which substantiating medical evidence has not been provided by a doctor. d) arising directly or indirectly by or resulting from normal pregnancy and childbirth related conditions. e) arising from cosmetic or beauty treatment or elective surgery. f) resulting from any psychiatric illness or mental or nervous disorder (including anxiety, depression, stress and stress-related conditions) unless investigated and diagnosed by a consultant specialising in the relevant field. g) caused by any back complaint or associated condition unless there is specialist medical evidence made available to the Insurer. h) arising from intentional self injury. i) arising from the use of drugs unless such use is under the specific direction of a doctor but not for the treatment of alcohol or drug addiction. j) where a claim is a result of attempted suicide or wilful exposure to danger (except in an attempt to save human life).
Unemployment Cover - what is not covered3. The insurer will not pay any benefit in respect of unemployment: a) which began prior to the date of application for this insurance. b) which you knew to be impending on the date of signing the application for this insurance. c) where the notification date or the date you ceased to trade is within the elimination period of 90 days. d) for any period in which you receive or are entitled to receive payment in lieu of notice. The deferred period shown on your schedule of insurance shall not start until such period has expired. e) which results from: - your own misconduct - you voluntarily leaving your employment or - you tendering your resignation for whatever reason. f) which results from voluntary redundancy. g) which results from the expiry of a casual, temporary, seasonal or occasional contract. h) if you are self-employed and have not ceased to trade. i) beyond the date on which any fixed term contract would have terminated.* j) commencing at the normal expiry date of a fixed term contract.* k) when you are not registered with the appropriate Government Agency and are not able to provide suitable evidence to the insurer that you are actively seeking work. *However, these exclusions do not apply to certain types of fixed term contracts, as outlined in the policy booklet.
