Changing patterns of community investment

The illustration below is a comparison of our 2007 and 2008 overall community investment. There has been a dramatic shift in the way in which we invest in our communities over the last two years; most noticably the change in focus from charitable gifts to community investment.

Charitable gifts promote common good on a one-off basis for a wide range of causes, e.g. a donation by the Britannia Foundation, where as community investment provides long term support for our community strategy. Therefore, in 2008 we have focused on our education initiatives; Fit4Finance, Number Partners and Young Enterprise and aligned our charitable giving to support our long term aims.

In addition to the increase in community investment, we have also begun to work on commercial initiatives. These are community activities that promote our community strategy.
