Our Approach

Key to our long-term sustainability as a business is to challenge, understand and meet our stakeholders' expectations regarding the economic, social and environmental impacts of our activities.

From its origins in the nineteenth century, Britannia has been at the heart of local communities helping people to realise their dreams and aspirations. Investing in the community is central to demonstrating to stakeholders (customers, employees and wider society) how we give practical effect to our commitment to corporate social responsibility. The creation of vibrant, healthy and prosperous communities will benefit society in general and is in the best interests of Britannia’s customers.

During the life of the present corporate plan we will focus on supporting education in our communities, wherever possible promoting an improvement in numeracy and/or financial literacy amongst children and young people. This is an area where we can add most value as it is a core competency of our business.

We will seek to focus our support in geographical areas where there are higher densities of our people and customers.

We will seek to prioritise investment in areas where we can make the biggest difference.

Everything that we do in the community will be guided by the following principles:

  • Fit with our corporate values.
  • We will focus on helping people to be the best they can be.
  • We will give priority to involvement that provides a long and sustained impact.
  • If appropriate, we may work with partner organisations to deliver specific projects and initiatives.
  • We recognise the contribution that our people can make to the success of our community involvement and therefore we encourage them to volunteer their time and expertise, especially where this offers them opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • We will measure the scale and effectiveness of our support. As part of this process, we will identify relevant measures of success (and, if appropriate, agree them with any partner) at the outset and monitor performance throughout the course of our involvement.
  • We will publish annually comprehensive information on our performance and actively seek endorsement from our customers and employees for both the overall strategy and how it has been implemented.
  • We will ensure our community policies and processes are cost effective in the way they deliver support.
  • It will reflect our commitment to diversity this link will open the page over the top of your current page.
